The calm atmosphere for the last 24 hours came to an end. At around 10.30 am. , around 40 to 50 thugs and gangsters was brought in by the developers to Kampung Sg. Nipah. Among them were, Bernand Tan, the thug who has been terrorizing the village in the last one-week or so. The developers wanted to unload a container into the village and had with them three huge machines to start earthwork. The people, at that time amounting less than ten tried to halt the container by blocking the road. Bernand then assaulted the Kampung Sg. Nipah action committee Head; Mohan and the developers tried to move in into the village. The gangsters then started to provoke the people. But they still had problem in moving the container in. Attempt to call the police by the people failed.
The police mysteriously or rather incidentally were not to be seen around. And most interestingly, the special branch who has been loitering the area for the last 48 hours were also not to be seen. The whole atmosphere looked very conducive for the developer and gangsters to wipe out the entire village. The people stood guard and slowly more people joined the blockade. The people said, they wanted the developer to produce the land title to enable them to move inside. The developers could not produce the land title though they claimed they have the title and from now; the land belongs to them. Just two days ago, the land office came in with the police to demolish the houses claiming the land belongs to the state. The gangster's leader too was unsure and agreed to start a negotiation.
He was also confused because he was given another picture when they were brought in. Since it was felt that the Shah Alam police have been completely bought over, the decision was made to call Bukit Aman and State IPK to intervene. Finally two policemen in motorbike came an hour later and just stood with the gangsters and developers as if they were part of that team. Only heavy pressure on Bukit Aman which finally two petrol cars came around 1 pm. The officer then told Bernand to take his things and leave the place because he couldn't produce the land title. At this point onwards the people became more confident while the gangsters slowly started to retreat. Once the police again left the scene, the developers and a few thugs were back. After 2 pm., the people's leaders was called in for a negotiation. Then while the so-called negotiation was taking place, the developers slowly using another entrance, moved in two heavy machines into the village.
The machines started their work and even demolished one newly rebuild houses. This is when everything broke loose and went out of control. The settlers feeling cheated and betrayed attacked the drivers of the machine and the drivers fled the scene. The machines were then damaged and put to sleep. At the same time another Pajero of the developers were stopped with 4 people inside. The settlers attacked the four wheeler with the developer's people inside. Following this the entire machines and everything else left the village. The settlers, now easily around 50 including women regrouped and started to gather in big force and this was the time, the key leader Bernand was seen fleeing the village.
He was chased and attacked by the settlers. Luckily for him, he survived the ordeal. The police like the movies came in after the whole incident. Even then, there was lots of pressure on Bukit Aman and State IPK. The developers and the remaining gangleaders finally agreed on several terms. They will unsure Bernand and another gangster will not come again. There will be a meeting with the Director of the landowner - the main man himself tomorrow morning. The settlers finally allowed the container to be parked outside the village and if the talks fail then the container must be removed. Finally the developers and their man left looking defeated. They're pride and their machine seems to be damaged. At night, the people lodged around 30 police reports against the developers and his thugs. At night, more than 100 people from outside came to give solidarity with the people and said that if they- the developers want to fight, then we shall fight till the end. After two demolitions, the people seem to have realized. They seem to be back in control at Sg. Nipah for now.
